The New Smyrna Beach Barracudas will take on the South Lake Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (New Smyrna Beach 3.3, South Lake 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
New Smyrna Beach is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Taylor on Thursday as New Smyrna Beach made off with a 14-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Barracudas considering their two-run performance the game before.
James Kobylanski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with four RBI.
In other pitching news, Brendan Williams looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Teague Carosella and Jesse Brock did most of the damage at the plate: Carosella scored four runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances, while Brock scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Landon McLain, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his six plate appearances.
New Smyrna Beach always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, South Lake posted their closest victory since April 22, 2024 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over University. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.
N Mclees spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up eight Ks.
At the plate, D Pina was excellent, scoring a run and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-3. J Brewer was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
New Smyrna Beach has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.9 runs on average over those games. South Lake's victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. New Smyrna Beach has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
