The Cocoa Beach Minutemen won the last time they faced the Edgewood Red Wolves, and things went their way on Wednesday too. Cocoa Beach took down Edgewood 61-44. The win made it back-to-back wins for Cocoa Beach.
It was another big night for Jay Matthews, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds and six assists. He has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jayesiah Carr, who scored ten points along with five assists and three steals.
Despite the loss, Edgewood saw an underclassman step up: Eddie Monterrubio scored 13 points along with two steals. Jeffrey Almeda was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with eight rebounds.
Cocoa Beach's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Edgewood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-11.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Merritt Island the next time they take the court. Cocoa Beach will head out to face Merritt Island at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, while Edgewood will host them at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
