Wekiva is 2-8 against Ocoee since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. Wekiva will be playing at home against Ocoee at 6:00 p.m. Wekiva has given up an average of 13.3 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Wekiva came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 18-3 to West Orange.
Wekiva saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Camilla Delgado, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Another was J. Rodriguez, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.
Even though they lost, Wekiva was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .364 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Ocoee, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with a 9-4 victory over South Lake on Friday.
Kylie Holden made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Holden was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trista Fitzpatrick, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Janay Jackson was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Wekiva's defeat dropped their record down to 3-7. As for Ocoee, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wekiva hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. However, it's not like Ocoee struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wekiva suffered a grim 8-1 defeat to Ocoee in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Wekiva avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
