Thomas Stone had lost four straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 5-8 to make it five. They came up short against the McDonough Rams, falling 15-5. That's two games in a row now that the Cougars have lost by exactly ten runs.
Brooklyn Thomas and Amani Shields did some serious damage despite the final result: Thomas went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Shields went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Katherine Osorio, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for McDonough, they moved to 5-6 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won four games by ten runs or more so far this season.
On McDonough's side, Rebekah Caballero made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Caballero was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and five RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lila Morgan, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and three doubles. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kendal Deery, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Thomas Stone will head out to take on Huntingtown at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will need to watch out since the Hurricanes have now posted at least ten runs in their last five contests. As for McDonough, they will host Leonardtown at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Rams' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 11.3 runs per game this season.
