After a string of 14 wins, the Peebles Indians's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They took a 40-31 hit to the loss column at the hands of Portsmouth West. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Peebles has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Peebles still got an impressive performance from Payton Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Johnson is crushing the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Abigail Smalley was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with three steals.
Peebles' loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 18-3. As for Portsmouth West, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.
Peebles will head out on the road to take on Lynchburg-Clay at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Peebles is coming into the contest with eight straight losses on the road, meaning Lynchburg-Clay will have to defend against a team hungry for a win. As for Portsmouth West, they will be playing at home against Wheelersburg at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Portsmouth West is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Wheelersburg in Ohio (Portsmouth West is ranked 95th, while Wheelersburg is ranked 388th).
