After a string of three wins, the American Heritage Patriots's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. The contest between American Heritage and Summit Academy wasn't particularly close, with American Heritage falling 54-35. American Heritage has struggled against Summit Academy recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
It was another big night for Avery Backus, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten assists for Summit Academy. Backus is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Johnson, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
American Heritage's loss dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Summit Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season.
American Heritage won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Cottonwood at 8:00 p.m. on December 29, 2023. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Utah (Cottonwood is ranked 56th, while American Heritage is ranked 81st). Summit Academy will finish 2023 at home by hosting Kearns at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Kearns focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 last Tuesday.
