When it comes to explaining why Woodrow Wilson lost, one person who can't be blamed is Laighton Scott v. Despite the final result, he rushed for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
Lakewood found their leader in underclassman Kade Casillas, who threw for 234 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.9% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Cecil Xavier smith, who picked up 80 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Woodrow Wilson's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 4-6. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.4 points per game. As for Lakewood, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Woodrow Wilson will square off against Saddleback at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Saddleback comes in on a streak of failing to score more than eight points in their last ten games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Lakewood, they will head out on the road to face off against Compton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Compton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 712th, while Lakewood is ranked 228th).
