The Altamont Indians will square off against the Delavan Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Altamont is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
If Altamont beats Delavan with eight runs on Thursday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Indians didn't even let Cumberland on the board on Wednesday, marking the Indians' second-straight 8-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Keegan Schultz, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Cumberland off the board.
At the plate, Kade Milleville was a standout: he scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Cooper McManaway was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Delavan can bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Saturday. They won by a run and slipped past El Paso-Gridley 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since April 30, 2024.
Braden Arrenholz was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Bryson Horning was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Trace Kight-Garlisch, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
Altamont's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Delavan, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Altamont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Delavan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
