Utica has gone a perfect 3-0 against Lamphere recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Chieftains are taking a road trip to face off against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Last Saturday, Utica made easy work of Lakeview and carried off an 11-4 victory. The Chieftains haven't had any issues with the Huskies recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Alex Gorgievski and Michael Hoppe did most of the damage at the plate: Gorgievski went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Hoppe fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. Logan Simunic was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-1.
They weren't the only one making solid contact: Utica kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, while Lamphere put up some runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Croswell-Lexington. The Rams blew past the Pioneers 10-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rams.
Ethan Malak looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Lamphere let Gavin Abbott and Aidan Grzsikowski run wild. Abbott scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3, while Grzsikowski scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Grzsikowski is becoming a predictor of Lamphere's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Henry Whalen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Utica's record is now 2-3. As for Lamphere, their record now sits at 4-2.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Utica has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .447. However, it's not like Lamphere struggles in that department as they've averaged .497. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Utica skirted past Lamphere 3-1 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Chieftains repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
