The Manteo Redskins will face off against the Northeastern Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Manteo is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62.2 points per game this season.
Last Tuesday, Manteo came up short against Currituck County and fell 55-48. The match marked the Redskins' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Despite their loss, Manteo saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Taylor Granitzki, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Jahmir Burton-Bailey was another key player, putting up eight points and three steals.
Even though they lost, Manteo was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Currituck County only racked up five assists.
Meanwhile, Northeastern put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Hertford County 80-46. With the Eagles ahead 44-14 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Northeastern's win came from a few key players Manteo will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Tyell Saunders, who posted 11 points along with six assists and four steals. Saunders is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eleck Sutton, who had 15 points and seven boards.
Manteo has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season. As for Northeastern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Manteo hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.2 points per game. However, it's not like Northeastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging 74.7 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Manteo was dealt a bruising 108-67 defeat at the hands of Northeastern when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Thankfully for Manteo, Sayvion Saunders (who almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
