The Miyamura Patriots were the 21-7 winner over the Belen Eagles when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Miyamura received a tough blow on Friday as they fell 28-14 to Belen. Miyamura has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Belen can attribute much of their success to Derian Rodriguez, who rushed for 108 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries, and also threw for 72 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. Rodriguez really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. Logan Gonzalez was another key contributor, picking up 87 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Miyamura's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.3 points per game. As for Belen, their victory ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-9.
Miyamura will square off against Highland at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Highland is ranked 49th, while Miyamura is ranked 61st). As for Belen, they will be playing at home against Piedra Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
