Bushnell-Prairie City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 22 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-21 in the process. They came up short against the Mendon Unity Mustangs, falling 18-6. If the Spartans were looking for revenge after losing 15-12 to the Mustangs when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Talan Love was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Dylan King, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
As for Mendon Unity, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
On Mendon Unity's side, Adler Gray was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gray has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mendon Unity let Ethan Triplett and Avery Frese run wild. Triplett went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs, while Frese went 3-for-4 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Triplett a new career-high. Miles Moulton was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Bushnell-Prairie City didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 11-10 loss against Biggsville West Central on the 25th. As for Mendon Unity, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 2-1 defeat against Liberty on the 25th.
