Softball Recap: Westwood Wins Going Away Against Ashland

Westwood won the last time they faced Ashland and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wolverines blew past the Clockers 14-1. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Bridget Mulkeen made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Johnson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Amelia O'Neill was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Westwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Ashland only managed two hits.

Westwood has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Ashland, they dropped their record down to 4-10 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Westwood will welcome Dedham at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines are facing the Marauders at the right time seeing as the Marauders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Ashland, they will be playing at home against Hopkinton at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hillers will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Clockers surely won't give up without a fight.
