Softball Recap: Jefferson Has No Trouble Against Lennard

Jefferson made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Lennard, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Dragons put the hurt on the Longhorns with a sharp 11-1 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Madisen Fleming made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Jefferson let Amaris Dominguez and Anais Ortiz run wild. Dominguez went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base, while Ortiz scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave Ortiz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jania Santos, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double.

Jefferson has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lennard, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.

Coming up, Jefferson will square off against Plant City at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 10.2 runs per game this season. As for Lennard, they will take on Blake at 10:00 a.m. on the 19th.
