It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Shelbyville Rams ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They skirted past Dieterich 63-60. The win was all the more spectacular given Shelbyville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while Dieterich is ranked 239th).
Leading Shelbyville to victory were Dru Clark and Kenzie Jones. Clark dropped a double-double on 20 points and 21 rebounds, while Jones scored 21 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Clark is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Millie Clark, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Dieterich still got an impressive performance from Miley Britton, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Ruby Westendorf was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Shelbyville's victory bumped their record up to 6-13. As for Dieterich, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-8.
Shelbyville will look to defend their home court on Monday against Martinsville at 6:00 p.m. Dieterich on the road again on Monday and play against Neoga at 2:30 p.m. on January 15th. Neoga knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past four matchups -- so hopefully Dieterich likes a good challenge.
