The Lapel Bulldogs waltzed into their matchup Saturday with two straight wins but they left with three. They greeted the New Year with with a 48-31 victory over Alexandria-Monroe. That's another feather in the cap for Lapel, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Lapel found their leader in underclassman Laniah Wills, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 16 rebounds. The game was Wills' 17th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Poynter, who scored 13 points.
Despite the loss, Alexandria-Monroe still got an impressive performance from Jacklynn Hosier, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds. Hosier scored a full 48.4% of Alexandria-Monroe's points, the 18th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lapel pushed their record up to 14-3 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Alexandria-Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 14-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lapel will square off against Blackford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Blackford is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 50.3 points per game. Alexandria-Monroe's road trip will continue as they head out to face Elwood at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Elwood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 364th, while Alexandria-Monroe is ranked 89th).
