Given the Spartans' advantage  in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings  (they are ranked 112th, while the Barbs are ranked 245th), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
 Sycamore was without their leading scorer,  Jameson Carl, in Thursday's   game. With  Carl sidelined, Sycamore had to make some  changes to the lineup.  Rocco Lomonaco played for 80 minutes having averaged 48.8 this season and  Paxton Nicol got 70 vs. an average of 37.2.
 Morris' win bumped their record up to 5-13-1. As for Sycamore,  the  victory made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 12-6-1.
 Morris beat Sycamore by a goal  in their previous meeting  back in October of 2023, winning  1-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morris since the  squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
