Dobyns-Bennett (Kingsport, Tenn.) extended its winning streak to 11 games with a 35-7 victory over
Bearden (Knoxville, Tenn.) on Saturday.
The Indians were up 21-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Devaun Swafford in the first quarter.
Dobyns-Bennett expanded its lead to 35 points entering the fourth quarter. DB scored two times in the third, including once on a Swafford touchdown run.
Trent Waters played well for the Bulldogs. The senior running back ran for one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to six on the year.
Swafford stood out for the Kingsport school in the win. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns and caught one touchdown.
Bearden's lone touchdown came on an 8-yard run by Waters in the fourth quarter.
BHS came in surrendering 13.6 points per game this season. The Indians had given up an average of 13.3 points prior to the contest. The seven points that the Knoxville school ended with were well below its average of 32.7 coming into the game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Bearden, which notched a 24-0 victory over Knoxville Catholic in its previous outing.
