It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Mount Tabor Spartans had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on Davie with a sharp 48-26 win. Mount Tabor might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won six matches by 21 points or more this season.
Leading Mount Tabor to victory were Lane Albright and Zion Thompson. Albright threw for 267 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.9% of his passes, while Thompson rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.0 yards per carry. Thompson has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last three times he's played. Chukwuma Hemmingway was in the mix too, providing Mount Tabor with two touchdowns.
Davie's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Ty Miller, who rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 237 yards and a touchdown. The team also got some help courtesy of Markel Summers, who rushed for 82 yards and two touchdowns.
The win (which was Mount Tabor's fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.0 points per game. As for Davie, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Mount Tabor will head out on the road to face off against Mooresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mooresville will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive. Davie does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
