The Cardinal Spellman The Pilots gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They escaped with a win against St. Edmund Prep by the margin of a single free throw, 38-37.
St. Edmund Prep's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of MacKenzie Palisi, who scored 16 points along with six assists and four steals, and Priscilla Long who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Long scored a full 27% of St. Edmund Prep's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Cardinal Spellman's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for St. Edmund Prep, they bumped their record down to 4-2 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Kennedy Catholic the next time they take the court. St. Edmund Prep will host Kennedy Catholic at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Cardinal Spellman will head out to face them at 1:30 p.m. on February 13, 2024.
