Russell is 2-7 against Lawrence County since April of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. Russell will be playing in front of their home fans against Lawrence County at 5:30 p.m. Russell knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Lawrence County likes a good challenge.
On Saturday, Russell got the win against Shelby County by a conclusive 13-4. Fans of the Red Devils have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Jayden Frasure made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those two triples gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Frank Brinkman looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
Back at the plate, Russell got a massive performance out of Kyle Mokas, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave Mokas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grayson Kiser, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Russell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Lawrence County and Boyd County, and Boyd County kept the tradition alive. Lawrence County fell just short of Boyd County by a score of 4-3 on Friday. The loss continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their meetings with the Lions: they've now lost three in a row.
Lawrence County now has a losing record of 1-2. As for Russell, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
