On Thursday, the Timberline Wolves faced the Eagle Mustangs in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Timberline sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 49-46 victory over Eagle. The victory was just business as usual for Timberline, who after six games remain undefeated this season.
Timberline was led to victory by Bryce Elder and Alex Ko. Elder scored 11 points along with six rebounds, while Ko scored 26 points along with six rebounds. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for him.
Eagle lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cole Pugh, who scored nine points. Hudson Van alfen was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Eagle struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Timberline pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Eagle, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Timberline and Jordan will round out the year against one another at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday at. Jordan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in their respective state's rankings (they are ranked 101st in Utah, while Timberline is ranked third in Idaho). Eagle will finish 2023 at home by hosting Bishop Kelly at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
