Kirbyville is 8-2 against Hardin since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Wildcats will be playing at home against the Hornets at 6:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Kirbyville sitting on four straight victories and Hardin on three.
Last Friday, Kirbyville made easy work of East Chambers and carried off an 8-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won 14 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Calli Wiggins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on one hit and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jules Carrell, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Wilkes, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
12 must be Hardin's lucky number: they beat Warren with that score not once but twice on Friday. The Hornets were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Warriors.
Hardin got a massive performance out of Kaitlyn Key, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Emma Smart, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Hardin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Kirbyville's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.2 runs over those games. As for Hardin, their victory bumped their record up to 6-14-1.
Everything went Kirbyville's way against Hardin in their previous matchup back in March, as Kirbyville made off with a 10-0 win. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
