The Eaton Reds had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down Highland 69-53. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Eaton also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2023.
Eaton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tayla Wiedeman, who almost dropped a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Wiedeman has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kara Sidwell, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Highland's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Briza Flores, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 37.7% of Highland's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Mary Jones was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Eaton pushed their record up to 11-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for Highland, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eaton and the Vikings will face off at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. As for Highland, they will head out on the road to take on the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
