The Dunellen Destroyers will head out to face off against the South River Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Dunellen's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs every time they've taken the field this season.
On Wednesday, Dunellen got the win against Highland Park by a conclusive 28-18. Fans of the Destroyers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Kyla Fucito was a standout: she went 5-for-6 with six runs, three doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2025. Another player making a difference was Rose Ciccolella, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and three RBI.
Dunellen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .564 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
North Plainfield hit South River with a ten-run third inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams lost 13-2 to the Canucks.
South River saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anabella Almenas, who went 1-for-2 with one triple.
Dunellen's record now sits at 3-0. As for South River, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Dunellen has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South River struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Dunellen came up short against South River in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, falling 15-11. Can the Destroyers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
