The Rocky River Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the St. Vincent-St. Mary Fighting Irish at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Rocky River scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They put the hurt on Bay with a sharp 67-42 win. Given Rocky River's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Bay is ranked 485th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Ava Patti, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. She is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 18 or more in the last seven games she's played. Mackenzie Russell was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, St. Vincent-St. Mary blew past Walsh Jesuit, posting a 68-24 victory on the road. 68 seems to be a good number for St. Vincent-St. Mary as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
The win was the fourth in a row for Rocky River, bringing their record for this year to 14-7. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points per game. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-5.
Rocky River and St. Vincent-St. Mary were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in February of 2021, but Rocky River came up empty-handed after a 43-42 loss. Can Rocky River avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
