After three games on the road, Anthony Wayne is heading back home. They will take on the Northview Wildcats at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Anthony Wayne is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Ohio (they are ranked sixth, while Northview is ranked 169th).
Last Thursday, Anthony Wayne strolled past Perrysburg with points to spare, taking the game 54-39.
Anthony Wayne relied on the efforts of Brooke Bender, who shot 4-for-7 from deep and dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds, and Elise Bender, who scored 27 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. That makes it three consecutive games in which Bender has scored at least a third of Anthony Wayne's points. Sophie Smith was another key contributor, scoring four points along with eight assists.
Meanwhile, Northview lost to Whitmer on the road by a decisive 52-35 margin on Thursday.
Anthony Wayne pushed their record up to 19-2 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.4 points per game. As for Northview, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-7 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Anthony Wayne against Northview when the teams last played back in January as the squad secured a 73-38 win. Will Anthony Wayne repeat their success, or does Northview have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
