This season hasn't been kind to the Monte Alto Blue Devil, who are still winless after their ninth match. They took a serious blow against Progreso on Tuesday, falling 55-24. Monte Alto has struggled against Progreso recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Progreso's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sophia Pecina, who dropped a triple-double on 16 points, 13 rebounds, and 12 assists. Pecina is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Lorena Cerda, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 14 rebounds.
Monte Alto dropped their record down to 0-9 with that loss, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 13.3 points per game. As for Progreso, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.
Monte Alto will be playing in front of their home fans against IDEA Weslaco Pike at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Progreso, they will head out on the road to take on Santa Rosa at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
