Baseball Recap: Northwest Rankin Find Success

The home team had come away the winner the last five times Northwest Rankin and Warren Central had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Cougars walked away with a 9-4 win over the Vikings on Saturday. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Vikings on their field since April 8, 2022.

Brady Saxton was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Northwest Rankin is 2-0-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-12 otherwise. Saxton was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.

In other pitching news, Jack Page looked comfortable as he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, JM Moore was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Gabe Hodges was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Northwest Rankin was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Northwest Rankin's record is now 9-12-1. As for Warren Central, with the loss, they broke their eight-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-9.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northwest Rankin will host Meridian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Warren Central, they will be playing at home against Ridgeland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
