After both having extra time off, the Elmira Express and the Bishop Kearney Kings will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 8:30 p.m. on December 27th. Hopefully Elmira focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Saturday.
Last Saturday, Elmira came up short against Union-Endicott and fell 52-43. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Elmira has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Elmira saw an underclassman step up: Mariah Matias dropped a double-double on 11 points and 25 rebounds. Those 25 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ellie Clearwater, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Even though they lost, Elmira were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 27 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, even though Nichols scored an imposing 58 points two weeks ago, Bishop Kearney still came out on top. Bishop Kearney walked away with a 65-58 win over Nichols.
Elmira's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Bishop Kearney, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that win, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
Elmira was taken down by Bishop Kearney 77-45 in their previous meeting back in December of 2021. Will Elmira have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more basketball content.
