Football Recap: Blue Springs Takes Down Ranked Rockhurst

Blue Springs faced Rockhurst in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wildcats walked away with a 38-29 victory over the Hawklets. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Devin Staley had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 105 yards and one score on only five carries, while also picking up 76 receiving yards and one touchdown. Blue Springs also got a significant boost from Dontay Ulberg, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Blue Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 216 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

Rockhurst lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Tristan Johnson, who picked up 72 receiving yards and a pair of TDs. He got the majority of those receiving yards when he pulled down a pass and took off for a gain of 58 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Thomas, who picked up 102 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Blue Springs pushed their record up to 4-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.7 points over those games. As for Rockhurst, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Blue Springs will face off against Park Hill South at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Panthers at the right time seeing as the Panthers are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Rockhurst, they will take on Saint Thomas Aquinas at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hawklets will need to watch out since the Saints have now posted at least 31 points in their last four matchups.
