Basketball Recap: Middle Creek Beats Nash Central for Their Second Straight Victory

Middle Creek won the last time they faced Nash Central, and Alysia Pergerson did her part to make sure it happened again. In a tight matchup that could have gone either way, the Middle Creek Mustangs made off with a 49-48 win over the Nash Central Bulldogs thanks in part to Pergerson, who went 12 of 23 on her way to 32 points and four steals. Those 32 points gave her a new career-high.

Nash Central's loss on Saturday came despite strong showings from Cameron Fate and Marquasia Warren. Fate dropped a double-double on 12 points and 16 boards, while Warren went 9 of 16 on her way to 18 points. With that strong performance, Fate is now averaging an impressive 8.8 boards per game.

The victory made it two in a row for Middle Creek and bumps their season record up to 4-7. As for Nash Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Middle Creek will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cary at 5:30 p.m. on January 7th. As for Nash Central, they will welcome Rocky Mount at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Nash Central has won seven straight at home dating back to last season, while Rocky Mount won four straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
