Softball Recap: Calvin Wins Going Away Against Dodson

Calvin had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 15-run drubbing they dealt Dodson on Thursday. The Cougars put the hurt on the Panthers with a sharp 16-1 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by seven runs or more this season.

Mattie Barnes was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Alexa Collins also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Calvin always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dodson only posted an OBP of .250.

The victory got Calvin back to even at 12-12. As for Dodson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-16.

Coming up, Calvin will take on Caddo Magnet at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Dodson, they will venture away from home to square off against Union Parish at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Farmers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.08 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
