The Gulf Breeze Dolphins fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Crestview Bulldogs on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 58-55. That's two games in a row now that Gulf Breeze has lost by exactly three points.
Gulf Breeze lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Piper Tieman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Tieman is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Makayla Brammer, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Crestview found their leader in underclassman Natalie Toney, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Madyson Boydstun, who scored 12 points.
This is the second loss in a row for Gulf Breeze and nudges their season record down to 12-6. As for Crestview, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-10 record this season.
Gulf Breeze will head out on the road to square off against Pensacola Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pensacola Catholic will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 425th, while Gulf Breeze is ranked 67th). As for Crestview, they will be playing at home against South Walton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
