Softball Recap: Saint James Extends Winning Streak to Six

Saint James won the last time they faced Mercersburg Academy and things went their way on Thursday too. The Saints were the clear victors by a 13-6 margin over the Storm. Considering the Saints have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Lily Schlotterbeck ?26 made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Everett Sechler ?26 was a standout: she fired off two home runs, four runs, and four RBI while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Tenley Mullendore ?27, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four stolen bases and four runs.

Saint James lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The win was the sixth in a row for Saint James, bringing their record up to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Mercersburg Academy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Saint James does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Mercersburg Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 17-1 win against Peddie on the 10th.
