Kearny hasn't had much luck against Sweetwater recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Kearny Komets will be taking part in a tournament against the Sweetwater Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. Kearny will aim to continue their five-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
Kearny is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Julian with a sharp 14-1 victory on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Sweetwater put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their undefeated season alive. They were the clear victor by a 21-4 margin over Lincoln. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Audrey Murillo and Tatyana Mosqueda made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Murillo tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Mosqueda tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Murillo posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Murillo scored two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Mosqueda got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one RBI.
In other batting news, Sweetwater got a massive performance out of Melanie Lopez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits Lopez has posted since back in March of 2024. Gabriella Sena was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and one double.
Sweetwater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .481. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .385 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Sweetwater's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Kearny, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-4.
Kearny might still be hurting after the 15-5 loss they got from Sweetwater in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Kearny avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
