The Flowing Wells Caballeros will face off against the Cienega Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Flowing Wells' defense has only allowed 13.1 points per game this season, so Cienega's offense will have their work cut out for them.
Flowing Wells is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 42 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Mountain View on Friday. They were outmatched by the Mountain Lions and fell 47-13. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Caballeros, who until this contest were averaging 13.14 points allowed.
The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Jayden Simmons and Drake Davis. Davis had a great game and rushed for 87 yards and one TD. Meanwhile, Simmons was balling out in the loss, rushing for 195 yards and one touchdown while picking up 12.2 yards per carry.
Meanwhile, Cienega strolled past Sunnyside with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 20-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
Cienega's win came from a few key players Flowing Wells will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Julian Hainley, who threw for 249 yards and a pair of TDs on only 19 passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Jaden Rodgers was Hainley's top target, picking up 101 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Cienega didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Carter Peterson, Davion Ross, and Riley Lohmueller picked up one apiece.
Having lost for the first time this season, Flowing Wells fell to 6-1. As for Cienega, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided in the trenches. Flowing Wells has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 306.9 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Cienega, though, as they've been averaging only 87.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Flowing Wells took a serious blow against Cienega when the teams last played back in September of 2017, falling 56-14. That game was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Caballeros were down 42-0.
