Mingus is on a four-game streak of home losses, Mohave a ten-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around on Monday.
Mingus suffered their biggest loss since December 27, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Bradshaw Mountain on the road and fell 64-30. While losing is never fun, Mingus can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 216th, while Bradshaw Mountain is ranked 83rd).
Despite the loss, Mingus saw an underclassman step up: Ricky Villalobos scored ten points. Memphis Korolowicz was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 84-42, which was the final score in Mohave's tilt against Prescott on Friday. Mohave was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-19.
Mingus has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. As for Mohave, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-13.
Mingus and Mohave were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, but Mingus came up empty-handed after a 47-46 loss. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Mohave's Kingzten Bristol, who scored 28 points along with three steals. Now that Mingus knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
