West Harrison is 1-9 against Picayune since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Hurricanes will be playing at home against the Maroon Tide at 5:00 p.m. West Harrison will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
While West Harrison didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Canton Academy with a sharp 13-2 victory on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Hurricanes, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Carlos Pena spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits.
At the plate, Cameron Sandel was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Reese Parker, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
West Harrison was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .526. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Picayune narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past St. Aloysius 4-3.
West Harrison pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Picayune, the victory got them back to even at 6-6.
West Harrison came up short against Picayune in their previous matchup back in March of 2025, falling 10-7. Can the Hurricanes avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
