It was a good run, but the LaBrae Vikings unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They took a 52-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Champion. LaBrae has struggled against Champion recently, as their contest on Monday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, LaBrae saw an underclassman step up: Mariah Jones dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jones scored 15 or more points. Ella Kuszmaul was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Even though they lost, LaBrae smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Champion only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Champion's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Addie Warzala, who scored seven points along with seven steals and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Haynie, who scored 16 points.
LaBrae's loss dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Champion, they pushed their record up to 13-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. LaBrae will take on Brookfield at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 628th, while LaBrae is ranked 255th). As for Champion, they will play host again and welcome Memorial, where tip off is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Memorial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Monday.
