The Bunker Hill Bears's nine-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Lincolnton with points to spare, taking the game 46-32. The victory was just what Bunker Hill needed coming off of a 75-18 defeat in their prior matchup.
It was another big night for Damireona Burch, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Andersen, who scored 13 points.
Lincolnton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Akira Connor, who scored seven points along with two steals. Nyla Johnson was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals.
Bunker Hill's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14. As for Lincolnton, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-14.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bunker Hill will take on West Caldwell at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (West Caldwell is ranked 532nd, while Bunker Hill is ranked 527th). Lincolnton on the road again on Tuesday and play against Newton-Conover at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Newton-Conover focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 last Tuesday.
