Caden Chisholm looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, Mitch Beyer was a standout: he got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Vicksburg is 5-1 when Beyer posts two or more runs, but 6-7-1 otherwise. Maddox Rosalin was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Vicksburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Otsego only posted a batting average of .167.
Meanwhile, Paw Paw scored first but ultimately less than Niles in their match on Thursday. They lost 16-4 to the Vikings. The defeat continues a trend for the Red Wolves in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost four in a row.
Landon Buhl was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one double. Another player making a difference was Remi Dempsey, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Vicksburg's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8-1. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Paw Paw, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Vicksburg has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Paw Paw struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Vicksburg came out on top in a nail-biter against Paw Paw in their previous matchup back in April, sneaking past 15-13. Do the Bulldogs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Wolves turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
