The Bayard Tigers struggled with assists on Saturday (the Bridgeport Bulldogs had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bayard was outmatched by Bridgeport on the road and fell 72-29. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bayard has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Bayard still got an impressive performance from Joslyn Shay hopkins, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Danika Hassel, who scored two points along with three steals.
Bridgeport got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Olivia Loomis-goltl out in front who scored 27 points along with two steals. Loomis-goltl has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. Tacey From was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 steals.
Bayard's loss dropped their record down to 18-3. As for Bridgeport, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 19-0.
Bayard is on the road again on Tuesday and plays Perkins County at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Hopefully Bayard focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 36 on Saturday. As for Bridgeport, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Torrington at 5:30 p.m. Bridgeport is coming into the game with 17 straight wins at home, meaning Torrington will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
