The Scappoose Indians will be playing at home against the Ashland Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Scappoose took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 43-6 victory over Astoria. Given Scappoose's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon football rankings (they are ranked 24th, while Astoria is ranked 115th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Max Nowlin was the offensive standout of the matchup as he threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns while completing 84% of his passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Derek Bond, who picked up 65 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Ashland had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points), and they went ahead and made it three last Friday. They claimed a resounding 41-0 win over Klamath Union on the road.
Gavin White was a one-man wrecking crew for Ashland as he rushed for 155 yards and three touchdowns on only 13 carries. White really tore up the turf during one magnificent 82-yard run. Jacob Ortega was another key contributor, gaining 104 total yards and a touchdown.
Scappoose's win was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Astoria, Milwaukie/Milwaukie Academy of the Arts, and Estacada. As for Ashland, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
