Baseball Recap: Canyon Lake Sets Scoring Season-High Against Gonzales

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canyon Lake). Everything went their way against the Gonzales Apaches on Friday as Canyon Lake made off with a 27-4 win. The result was nothing new for Canyon Lake, who have now won 12 contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Ryder Hopper was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Carter Williams, who fired off two home runs, eight RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those eight RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Wayen Slanina-Wertz, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles.

Canyon Lake always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .721. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Canyon Lake has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. Gonzales dropped their record down to 0-14-1 with the loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon Lake will challenge Wimberley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Canyon Lake 3, Wimberley 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Gonzales, they will take on Rockport-Fulton at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Rockport-Fulton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
