Softball Recap: Buffalo Wins Going Away Against Westwood

While Buffalo put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Westwood. The Buffalo Bison put the hurt on the Westwood Panthers with a sharp 18-0 victory. The Bison might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by nine runs or more this season.

Ella Ortiz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in February. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Buffalo let Avery Waters and Pari Bharat run wild. Waters scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances, while Bharat scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Waters a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Camdyn Evans, who scored two runs and stole a base.

Buffalo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The win made it two in a row for Buffalo and bumps their season record up to 5-8. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Westwood, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Buffalo will venture away from home to take on New Waverly at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Buffalo will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Westwood, they are taking a road trip to face off against Elkhart at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood has given up an average of 13.4 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
