Argonia is 0-10 against Caldwell since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Argonia Red Raiders will look to defend their home court against the Caldwell Bluejays at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Argonia has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Caldwell will arrive with three straight wins.
Argonia pushed their score all the way to 66 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Oxford by a score of 68-66. While losing is never fun, Argonia can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 307th, while Oxford is ranked 111th).
Despite their defeat, Argonia saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Filippo Leonardi, who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Leonardi has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Carson Vineyard, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Argonia were working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Caldwell strolled past West Elk with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 58-41. That looming 58-41 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Caldwell yet this season.
Argonia has not been sharp recently as the team has lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season. As for Caldwell, their win bumped their record up to 7-10.
Argonia came up short against Caldwell in their previous matchup back in January, falling 53-40. Can Argonia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
