It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Vanden had no problem doing just that on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 26-25 photo finish over the Merced Bears. Winning may never get old, but the Vikings sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Despite the loss, Merced still got an impressive performance from Hayden Czirban, who picked up 94 receiving yards and three TDs. Czirban also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making 11 total tackles. Dougie Andrews handled things on the ground, rushing for 86 yards.
Vanden's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Merced, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 10-1.
Coming up, Vanden will head out on the road to challenge Oakdale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' defense better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 48.9 points per game this season. Merced does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
