Brennan Walker and Bryson Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Walker struck out seven batters over 4.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Bryson pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At the plate, Walker got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Bryson went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. Telstar is undefeated when Bryson posts two or more runs, but 1-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, Connor Deprey was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Brayden Easterlin, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Telstar always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 6-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Carrabec got the win against Rangeley Lakes on Wednesday by a conclusive 17-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cobras.
Like Telstar, Carrabec also got a great game from a two-way player: Zack Davis. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Davis has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.1 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Logan Caldwell was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Scott, who went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
The win got Carrabec back to even at 4-4. As for Telstar, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Telstar has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Carrabec struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Telstar took their win against Carrabec in their previous matchup on May 3rd by a conclusive 18-7 score. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cobras turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
