Basketball Recap: Aydon Veloz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pahrump Valley over Boulder City

Pahrump Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against the Boulder City Eagles, falling 64-41. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 87th, while the Eagles are ranked 22nd).

Pahrump Valley's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aydon Veloz, who posted three points and eight rebounds. Those eight boards gave Veloz a new career-high. Caden Briscoe also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Pahrump Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Boulder City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sean Pendleton, who went 6 for 15 on his way to 14 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Luke Wright, who had 12 points and four steals.

Pahrump Valley's loss dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Boulder City, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

Pahrump Valley has already played their next game (against The Meadows School), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Boulder City will face off against Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon is on a three-game streak of home wins, Boulder City a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
